jakarta - sunda kelapa

Sunda Kelapa is the old harbour of Jakarta. This is where the Dutch had their warehouses and where the ships of the Dutch East Indies Trading Company docked. Old ships on local trading routes still dock here, but many of them are past retirement. This is a great area to explore on foot. Paula and I were both a little afraid walking around in these poorer parts of Jakarta, but all the people friendly and our fears quickly subsided. Jakarta is a must-experience. It was the movie A Year of Living Dangerously that made me want to visit. The city is not in the same state as it was in the movie, but some aspects have survived to this day.
